Introduction

Khustai National Park is located 120km from Ulaanbaatar city amongst the mountains that maintain their natural beauty, unharmed by human activities. Nowadays, it is best known as the sanctuary for Przewalski Wild Horses which are also known as ‘Takhi’ in Mongolian. These wild horses, native to Mongolia, went extinct by the year 1954. However, thanks to efforts spearheaded by the Dutch, these horses were reintroduced to their native habitat in the early 1990s. Nowadays, there are approximately 350 horses thriving within the safety of the National Park.

Travel Itinerary:
Meet with local guide and driver in the early morning. Depart for Khustai National Park, located westward of Ulaanbaatar. After two hours of driving, we reach the National Park area. Upon arrival, visit the local information center that not only provides information regarding the wild horses, but also the local fauna.
Drive deeper into the National Park to see these magnificent creatures in person. They are easiest to spot in the morning or near sunset when they go for watering near the local streams.
After seeing the horses, return to Khustai ger camp for lunch and return to the city.
